All Is One in Bali

This is a Hard Rock Cafe original fridge magnet. It cost me a bomb, really; it's like RM45 or something like that - but heck, I do have the intention of having a set of HRCs.

We got this in Bali during our second vacation there. The one that we went with my parents, siblings & aunts.

Another Balinese

Another Bali magnet. This time, the porcelain fridge magneto depicts hindu temples, padi terrace and surfing. It was a breathe of fresh air, after seeing only wooden fridge magnets as I went from Kuta to Tegalalang to Ubud etc.

This is yours truly @ Tanah Lot.

Bali Mirrored

My sis Gee went to Bali for her honeymoon last year. And she got me this Bali fridge magnet. There is a mirror in the middle. Made of wood, apart from the mirror. Gee is flying to Jakarta tomorrow. I'm hoping for some magnets from there.

Above, my sisters Ina (left) and Gee. Below, you can see my camera in the mirror.

Vase Overhead

I have witnessed how Balinese ladies carried their offerings on their heads. It was Hari Raya Galungan and so many of them, dressed in sort of short kebaya top & kain batik. They were ontheir way to the temple.

These two fridge magnets were purchased there. They are rubber fridge magnets, and I was so thrilled when I found them in a mall in Kuta. I should have bought more, since I was on "fridge magnet on credit card" shopping spree but I realised this a little too late (thank goodness, I suppose). Anyway, they only have four designs, so it was good that I bought one of each.

I will post pictures of the other 2 designs. I am reserving one for one grad student in UK and the other, I gave it to GH as a present. As for now:

All Things Bali

This is a carca marba entry of Bali magnets. I bught quite a handful of stuff, for myself, my friends, my mom.

So here are the detailed ones for this blog:

ONE
(surf board? It's nothing compared to the hard bodies surfers I see by the beach)

TWO
Kickboard. Kids stuff. Still not like the hard bodies surfers by the beach.

THREE
(this pair is quite tiny & cute. the hard bodies surfers usually walk around in their slippers if they were to dash to the Bali version of 7 Eleven for a fizzy drink))

FOUR
(Tasha banned this one from our house, so it is at my office. It looks nothing like the hardbodies surfers)

FIVE
(groan! Typical Bali magnet!)

SIX
(groaning gets slightly louder!)

SEVEN
groan ended. Not even pretty.
I still prefer ogling at the hard bodies surfers by the beach.

Bali Break

I bought this Bali sea featuring surf boards and Tanah Lot at Kuta on the last day that we were there earlier this year.

It was a far cry from the typical wooden magnet and I am so very pleased with it. I think I bought some for my friends, I can't remember. But there is another one, carryingh the shape of the island that I bought as well.

Here is a pic of some of us in Legian, all smiles near Ground Zero. What an irony.

Tiny Feet

Take a look at my 246th magnet. Some sort of a footprint. And it is a tiny magnet. It is soooo small. I bought it in Bali.

You wonder how small the footprint is. Well, here's a comparison, against my thumb.

Phew! Nasib baik masa ni baru lepas buat RM10 manicure sempena Hari Kemas at Menara Pjh di Precinct 2, Putrajaya. Kilat ler sikit kuku kakak masa ambik gambar ni..

Comel, kan?

Dancing in Bali

Here's one of the first family pictures taken in Bali during the family trip from 14 March 2009 until 17 March 2009.

On that island, I found two graceful Bali dancers:

As Bali is more famous for Kecak and Barongan, I have never had the opportunity to watch an all-female cultural dance performance. Anyways, durig my previous trip to Bali, all I can find are the typical wooden magnets, which are being sold by the streets and at tourist spots. This time around, while we were at Sogo in Kuta, I explored (almost thoroughly) the souvenir department and there are quite a bit of other types of magnets: rubber, steel and porcelain.

These two ladies are made out of steel. Power.

Yang Murah Jadik Mahal

We went to Bali last week or so ago, and I managed to get my hands on some nice fridge magnets. But, I also bought he normal magnets that are sold at the stalls - those made out of wood. They are sold at 10,000 rupiah for a set of 4 or 5 at tourist spots in Goa Gajah and Tampak Siring, but me, pandai sangat, refused to buy. In the end, I bought them in Kuta, and it cost me so much more!!

Here's a turtle, small and cute:

And a fish bone, which I find very amusing:

Hard Rocking Bali

Here are some hard rocking guitars from Bali. I have several of them, and after dishing our a few as souvenirs, I still have three left. I already have in mind that one of them is to be given to a friend who'll be coming over for buka puasa at my house next weekend, insya Allah, if all goes well.
Here is a picture of my husband and our children in front of the giant guitar at the Bali Hard Rock Hotel. I am pretty sure we've taken similar photo during our first trip to Las Vegas in 1999.

We thoroughly enjoyed the little Bali break. A respite (the word of the day from yourdictionary.com yesterday) amidst tons of work.
