The Japanese Invasion

An invasion I am willing to receive!! With thanks to Rozian, my senior in uni. It was a long wait, but it was worth it. Rozian, who is attached to Malaysian High Comm in Japan, came back to Malaysia but I was away in Bali so we didn't get to meet. Nevertheless he passed this to his friend; and I collected it ear;y last month. A set of four fridge magnets, and a beautiful mouse pad.
I must put it on record that I now only own three of these. The Mount Fuji (pic below) was given to Sha (MsLvoe) as a present.

Nigirisushi, Anyone?

In Japanese cuisine, sushi is vinegared rice, usually topped with other ingredients including fish (cooked or uncooked) and vegetables. Outside of Japan, sushi is sometimes misunderstood to mean the raw fish by itself, or even any fresh raw-seafood dishes.
In Japan, sliced raw fish alone is called sashimi and is distinct from sushi, as sashimi is the raw fish component, not the rice component. There are various types of sushi: sushi served rolled inside nori (dried and pressed layer sheets of seaweed or alga) called makizushi or rolls; sushi made with toppings laid with hand-formed clumps of rice called nigirizushi; toppings stuffed into a small pouch of fried tofu called inarizushi; and toppings served scattered over a bowl of sushi rice called chirashi-zushi.
Here are the sushi magnets Izwan bought!!

Rikishi in Dohyo

All the way from Japan - presenting these Sumo wrestlers. Here's some info on sumo from you (actually I'm just reproducing Wikipedia stuff. You can always click onWikipedia to find out more): Sumo is a competitive contact sport where two wrestlers (rikishi) attempt to force one another out of a circular ring (dohyo) or to touch the ground with anything other than the soles of the feet. The sport originated in Japan, the only country where it is practiced professionally. The Japanese consider sumo a gendai budō (a modern Japanese martial art), though the sport has a history spanning many centuries.

Mount Fuji

Izwan bought this magnet at Narita Airport in Tokyo, on this way to Seatle last month. It's a picture of Mount Fuji, beautifully & proudly bearing its snowy top. It is the highest mountain in Japan - at 3,776 m (12,388 ft). An active volcano that last erupted in 1707-08, it straddles the boundary of Shizuoka and Yamanashi prefectures just west of Tokyo, from which it can be seen on a clear day. It is located near the Pacific coast of central Honshū. Three small cities surround it: Gotemba (east), Fujiyoshida (north) and Fujinomiya (southwest). Mount Fuji's exceptionally symmetrical cone is a well-known symbol of Japan and it is frequently depicted in art and photographs, as well as visited by sightseers and climbers.

Here's a pic of the mountain, taken at sunrise from Lake Kawaguchi.
