Clog. Local. Cool?!

I have a clog magnet which I bought in Holland in year 1998. Yes it is 10 years old already. Number 52 in my list. You can check the old entry here. But last year I bought another one, with Holland written on it, but I did not go to Holland.

In fact, it was merely 15 minutes from our house. :-D I bought it last Ramadhan in SACC Mall in Shah Alam. It's kinda unfair, but if I had bought a Utah magnet in Colorado, what's wrong with a Holland magnet from Shah Alam?!

Loch Ness

Fort Augustus is a settlement in the Scottish Highlands, at the south west end of Loch Ness. The village has a population of around 646 (in year 2001); its economy is heavily reliant on tourism.

Wikipedia will tell you that the Gaelic name for the modern village is Cill Chuimein, and the accepted etymology is that the settlement was originally named after Saint Cummein of Iona who built a church there. Other suggestions are that it was originally called Ku Chuimein after one of two abbots of Iona of the Comyn clan, whose badge Lus mhic Chuimein refers to the Cumin plant, or that it was called Cill a' Chuimein ("Comyn's Burialplace") after the last Comyn in Lochaber.

Fort Augutus Neptune Staircase

Apparently, a visit to the pretty village of Invermoriston and lovely Glenmoriston is always worth the short journey of around 7 miles. Steeped in Jacobite history, Invermoriston, with its white harled cottages, is a popular resting place for walkers tackling the Great Glen Way.

Moriston is Gaelic for ‘river of the waterfalls’ and the dramatic Moriston Falls are spectacular in spate – especially from the Old Bridge built by Thomas Telford in 1813 during the construction of the Caledonian Canal. Look out too for St Columba’s Well and the spectacular gorge at the entrance to the Glenmoriston Road to the Isles.

Enough about historical facts. Now, to the more important stuff:

Bali Bali

Here are some of the Bali magnets that I have got. Here are dolphins on a Bali Island shaped magnet:

Me in Tegalalang, Bali.

With a population recorded as 3,151,000 in 2005, the island is home to the vast majority of Indonesia's small Hindu minority. 93.18% of Bali's population adheres to Balinese Hinduism, while most of the remainder follow Islam. It is also the largest tourist destination in the country and is renowned for its highly developed arts, including dance, sculpture, painting, leather, metalworking and music.

And there's more: a couple of dolphins

Escaped Prisoner

Watch out!! The prisoner is out!!
He may be smiling but truth is, in Alcatraz Prison, prisoners were assigned to private cells and provided with only basics: clothing, food, water and medical care. These cells are about 9 feet by 5 feet, and prisoners spent up to 20 hours a day in them.
I like this magnet very much. It is cute, it matches my other similar magnet - Shakespeare.

Most Beautiful Stadium

For magnet number 222, it is one special magnet of a gorgeous and wonderfully constructed stadium in China which hosts the recent Olympics.

Beijing National Stadium stadium in Beijing, China. The stadium was designed for use throughout the 2008 Summer Olympics and Paralympics.

Located in the Olympic Green, the US$423 million stadium is the world's largest steel structure. The design was awarded to a submission from the Swiss architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron in April 2003, after a bidding process that included 13 final submissions. The design, which originated from the study of Chinese ceramics, implemented steel beams in order to hide supports for the retractable roof; giving the stadium the appearance of a "Bird's nest". Ai Weiwei, the artistic consultant, played a critical role in pushing the design to have unique Chinese characteristics.

Ironically, the retractable roof was later removed from the design after inspiring the stadium's most recognizable aspect. Ground was broken in December 2003 and the stadium officially opened in June 2008. A shopping mall and a hotel are planned to be constructed to increase use of the stadium, which will host football events after the Olympics.

2008 Magnets and More

Few hours before 2008 come to an end, I decided to give my fridge magnets a little cleaning up. Took down everything and cleaned the fridge surface. It looked VERY VERY bare, dull and lifeless without the colourful magnets! So I put up the most recent ones plus those from San Fransisco.

It is quite dazzling (perasan statement nih)!!

And these are left in the several plastic/paper/recycleable bags:

I sure hope I will get more to increase my collection in 2009.

Canadian Farmhouse

Imagine walking near a canadian farmhouse area under bright blue sky.... something like this....

Awesome, right? Plus that is a gorgeous picture which I stole from this fella's flickr page, Alessandro Cai's photostream. You should check out his photos. Awesome. He described the above picture as "Farmhouse near Smiths Falls, Ontario, Canada. 2007. Seen along the route 15 from Kingston to Ottawa". Which is about right, considering my fridge magnet looks like this:

This is a canadian magnet, of a farmhouse, which my friend Nik Yurni bought at a sort of 'pasar malam' sale in Nottingham.
